Lonnie Brooks Band - março de 2009

A família Brooks tomou conta de metade deste programa, com o velho Lonnie e seus filhos Ronnie e Wayne Baker Brooks. A outra metade ficou por conta do Floyd Lee, primo do John Lee Hooker. O Floyd gosta de tocar nas estações do metrô de Nova Iorque. Por isso, se você esteve por lá nos últimos 20 anos, é bem provável que tenha ouvido seu som.

Programa de 07 de novembro de 2009


Este programa prestou homenagem a dois grandes nomes do blues recentemente falecidos. Freddy Robinson, também conhecido como Abu Talib (24 de fevereiro de 1939 - 8 de outubro de 2009), tocou com Little Walter, com Howling Wolf e com o John Mayall no seminal "Jazz Blues Fusion". Gravou poucos discos em seu nome e merecia um reconhecimento muito maior.
Já Norton Buffalo (28 de setembro de 1951 - 30 de outubro de 2009) foi guitarrista da Steve Miller Band por mais de 20 anos, gravou alguns discos em parceria com a slide guitar do Roy Rogers e trabalhos com sua própria banda.

Norton Buffalo, one of the multitalented and brilliant harmonica players and well-known singer and songwriter died after battling with lungs cancer on October 30, 2009. Norton Buffalo was famous for his strong and expressive performance in harmonium as well regarded as a distinguished and remarkable songwriter, singer, producer and engineer. He was 58 years old at the time of his death.

He was suffering from pneumonia and stage four lung cancer. This brutal stage of cancer had spread to his brain. He had trouble breathing and as he got himself checked, it was diagnosed that he has severe lungs cancer.

Oakland born Buffalo started his career from very early age under the guidance of his father, who was also a harmonica player. During his high school education, he performed in a number of bands. In the early 1970s he got fame as a popular San Francisco Bay Area musician and singer. He started playing with different musical groups as Elvin Bis, Clover, and The Moonlighters.

He also performed in numerous films. He gave his appearance for a cameo role in a rock movie, “The Rose” in which he was accompanied by Bette Midler, he played the role harmonica player. “Heaven’s Gate” was his second movie in which he again used to play a cameo role.

He was much an endowed artist and his death is a big loss for music. In 1978, he won a Grammy for his performance as harmonica player at a track of “The Doobie Brothers”.

O John Bull Blues Festival traz a Curitiba no dia 29 de outubro, quinta feira, o guitarrista Bob Margolin, o baixista Bob Stroger e Willie "Big Eyes" Smith na bateria e harmônica, eles que, durante anos acompanharam o Mestre do Blues - Muddy Waters.

Diretamente de Chicago - Illinois ( EUA) o trio acompanhou o pai do blues, Muddy Waters nas décadas de 60 a 80.

Abertura com Emerson Caruso Trio, e os primeiros 50 ingressos antecipados ganham um Cd da banda local.

Bob Stroger
O baixista de Chicago começou sua discografia com o primeiro single de Eddie King, "Love You Baby" en 1965. Depois ainda gravou com Otis Rush, Jimmy Rogers, Eddie Taylor, Eddie Clearwater, Sunnyland Slim, Lousiana Red Buster Benton, Homesick James and Snooky Pryor entre outros. Na lista de bateristas que o acompanharam estão: : Odie Payne Jr., Fred Below, S.P. Leary, Ted Harvey, K.C. Jones, Robert Covington, Sam Lay, Jessie Green, Willie "Big Eye" Smith, Jim Telmin and Billy Davenport

Bob Margolin
Guitarrista e vocal de blues, leva com ele o estilo Chicago Blues, como também, cria sua própria e original música atual. De 1973 ate 1980, Bob tocou com a banda do legendário Muddy Waters.
Em 1980 Bob começou com sua banda própria e continua gravando discos. Em 2005 ganhou o premio WC Handy de Guitarra e foi novamente nominado em 2006.

Willie Big Eyes Smith
Willie "Big Eyes" Smith se aventurou em Chicago, onde escutou Muddy Waters pela primeira vez. Em 1954, Willie formou um trio com o baterista Clifton James. Durante este mesmo tempo, Willie tocou sua harmônica com BO Diddley, Arthur "Big Boy" Spires y Johnny Shines.
Willie tocou com a banda de Muddy até 1980 e participou de todos os álbuns ganhadores de Grammy.
Depois de tocar com Muddy Waters, Smith estableceu seu próprio nicho dentro da tradição do Blues.
